Experience of the professional physiotherapist in the diagnosis of leprosy: an experience report

Objective: consisted of understanding the view of the professional physiotherapist in the diagnosis of Hansen’s disease through dermatoneurological evaluation. Method: the study is descriptive, observational, of a qualitative character developed in a Health Unit in Belém / PA. The experience was carried out by the students of the Physiotherapy course at a State University of Pará, during the months of September and October 2017. A technical visit was made in order to get to know the Basic Health Unit, as well as the multidisciplinary work provided to the patient leprosy, emphasizing the role of the professional physiotherapist in the diagnosis of leprosy. Results and impacts: the main aspects highlighted in the interview were: quantity of positives to Hansen’s basil, perspective of cure, attendance in treatment, impacts on the level of experience as a physical therapist, among others. The district of Marambaira had a more expressive notification compared to the other neighborhoods, in 2016, of 27 positive cases, according to the Brazilian Institute of Research and Mapping and Information Technology at the Service of SUS. Conclusion: the experience of the physical therapist in the diagnosis of leprosy, expanded the knowledge of academics through information about guidelines and prevention of Hansen’s disease. Therefore, further studies on the interaction of health professionals, their experiences, with undergraduate students are fundamental.
