Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge about insulin storage by patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The research approached 249 users of insulin in social media related to DM. These users answered a questionnaire about insulin storage in the first semester of 2018. The results demonstrate that in relation to reusable pens in use, 80.7% of users store reusable pens outside refrigerators; from these 46% leave pens outside their original cases. Insulin flasks in use are stored inside refrigerators by 84.8% of the sample, of these 36% use the shelves for storage, 36.8% use the doors and 12% use the refrigerator vegetable drawer. The sealed insulin flasks are stored by 47.8% of users on the shelves, 30.1% on the doors and 21.3% in the refrigerator vegetable drawers. The use of thermal containers for transportation is used by 77.7% users to go to work/school, whereas 84.1% use them to go to the beach/swimming pool, and 62.9% to go to from the drugstore their homes. It was found that the storage of pens and insulin flasks, as well as its transportation is inadequate in part of the sample studied. By means of the results that highlight the knowledge of users about insulin, it is possible that health professionals update their practices about health education in order to make them more effective to insulin users.

Universidade Federal de Santa Maria2019-08-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/3734210.5902/2236583437342Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.2, maio-ago. 2019; 10Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.2, maio-ago. 2019; 102236-58340103-4499reponame:Saúde (Santa Maria)instname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMporhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/37342/pdfCopyright (c) 2019 Saúde (Santa Maria)info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessOliveira, Ana Beatriz Andrade SoaresSilva, Lorena FortunaMello, Sávio Dias PaulaFerreira, Marcela SantosSilva, Júlio Cesar Santos2019-11-11T15:18:33Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/37342Revistahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaudePUBhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/oairevistasaude.ufsm@gmail.com || amanda.revsaude@gmail.com || beatriz.revsaude@gmail.com2236-58342236-5834opendoar:2019-11-11T15:18:33Saúde (Santa Maria) - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)false
