Resumo: Objectives: Evaluate the storage and disposal of drugs by the university community of Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: Cross-sectional study, conducted between June and August 2017, covering the academic community (students and servers) of UFSM. Results: Of the 170 interviewees, 85.3% stored medicines at home, standing out the fourth as the main storage site (48.6%). The habit of storing medications by students was not associated with gender, age, parents’ level of education, level and period of the course or academic area, or residence status (P>0.05). The residence situation was significantly associated (p=0.022) with the practice of validity monitoring. Considering disposal practices, 70.9% of the academic community discards in common waste. Incorrect disposal of medications performed by servers was associated with mothers’ education (p=0.018) and sex (p=0.031). Conclusion: Regardless of sociodemographic characteristics, most of the population practice storage and reported incorrect disposal of medications. This diagnosis subsidized institutional awareness actions and potentially assists other higher education institutions in the adoption of collective health education measures.

Universidade Federal de Santa Maria2019-12-10info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/3930110.5902/2236583439301Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.3, set.-dez. 2019Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.3, set.-dez. 20192236-58340103-4499reponame:Saúde (Santa Maria)instname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMporhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/39301/pdf_1Copyright (c) 2019 Saúde (Santa Maria)info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMichelon, NelizeJesus, Patrícia Romualdo deOliveira, Débora Marques deZucco, Bernardo dos SantosBayer, Valéria Maria LimbergerFlores, Liziane MaahsRies, Edi Franciele2020-02-14T12:55:07Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/39301Revistahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaudePUBhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/oairevistasaude.ufsm@gmail.com || amanda.revsaude@gmail.com || beatriz.revsaude@gmail.com2236-58342236-5834opendoar:2020-02-14T12:55:07Saúde (Santa Maria) - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)false
