Reducing the environmental impact in the production of ceramics: implications and investment analysis

Resumo: The manufacture of ceramics and bricks is by nature generates high loss rates and environmental waste. This study assessed from the techniques of statistical process control a possible investment to be made in the extrusion process and verified the result of an investment in the drying process to minimize environmental impacts and optimize processes. The main results showed that the improvement in the extrusion process through the acquisition of a grinding proved economically viable, since the payback time of the investment was suitable for the company. In the case of improvement in the drying process, the payback time of the investment was valued at sixty and two months that despite being a high time in strategic terms, this improvement is part of a program to expand the production of the studied industry. It was concluded that the techniques of statistical process control can be used significantly to investment decisions that involve reducing environmental impact and optimizing production from the production of ceramics.

O presente estudo avaliou a partir das técnicas de controle estatístico de processos um possível investimento a ser realizado no processo de extrusão e verificou o resultado de um investimento realizado no processo de secagem visando minimizar os impactos ambientais e otimizar os processos. Os principais resultados da pesquisa mostraram que a melhoria no processo de extrusão através da aquisição de uma retífica se mostrou economicamente viável, uma vez que o tempo de amortização do investimento ficou satisfatório para a empresa. Já no caso da melhoria no processo de secagem, o tempo de amortização do investimento foi avaliado em sessenta e dois meses, que apesar de ser um tempo elevado em termos estratégicos, tal melhoria faz parte de um programa de ampliação da produção da indústria estudada.
