Resumo: This paper preliminarily presents a set of investigative procedures to integrate a PhD thesis that was initiated at the University of Barcelona in Spain. The research presents as main objective to inquire about the school's role in social development and enhancement of visual literacy. The work maps a set of authors who, in recent years, have been dedicating themselves to the topic and seeks to characterize some visual practices which are held today in Portuguese schools.
