The Platform PB-Historical Corpus and an investigation of the orderof clitics and subjects in nineteenth century brazilian newspapers

Resumo: In this article I present the PB-Corpus Historical Platform whose objective is to make available texts in Portuguese written in Brazil between the 18th and 21th centuries. In the theoretical framework of diachronic syntax with data extracted from the Platform, I analyze the evolution of proclisis in a neutral environment and the order of the subject in nineteenth-century Brazilian Newspapers. The hypothesis is that the proclisis generated by the BP grammar appears in texts written from the second half of the nineteenth century and that in the texts of the first half of that century the proclises are generated by a V2-type grammar like Classical Portuguese.
