The editions of the “Exemplary Novels” in Brazil

Resumo: The present work deals with the circulation of a series of short stories, published in Spain, in 1613 by Miguel de Cervantes under the heading Exemplary Novels. Supported in the concepts of “success” and “fortune” (TIEGHEM; BRUNEL, PICHOIS, ROSSEAU; SOUILLER, TROUBETZKOY), we search, initially, to show which stories had quantitatively gotten a more positive fortune and which less, from a survey of 14 Brazilian editions of the workmanship. At a second moment, from the analysis of the peritext (GENETTE, 2009) of these editions, we observed in which segments of the society the stories had circulated. Finally, the study of the prologues in them indicates the critical fortune of Cervantes’ book.
