Resumo: The article intends to analyze the posthumous publication Memories of the prison (1953), by Graciliano Ramos (1852 -1953), having as main focus the issue of violence suffered and witnessed, represented in this work of the author, through his experience and his testimony as a political prisoner in the government of President Getúlio Vargas. It is intended to conduct a brief study on the importance of the marks on the body of the prisoner who has suffered all kinds of humiliations, whose wounds, physical or emotional, constitute one of the main instruments in the construction of the narrative, which is a unique literary testimony with which it represents the matter of your experience.
