Resumo: This article aims to investigate the manifestations of violence against women in a specific space: the hinterland of Goiás in the first decades of the twentieth century. We supported our analyzes through the reading the short story “Um assassinato por tabela”, by writer Bernardo Élis, initially published in the collection Ermos e Gerais in 1944. We pursue the hypothesis that violence against women communicates with Brazilian colonization project, when practices of usurpation, genocide and exploitation took root in our culture and affected principally rural society.
