Cinema and literature: the visit of the Pope to Melo and the interarts dialogue

Resumo: This study evaluates the artistic treatment given by different arts, cinema and literature, to the same fact from the factual world: The visit of Pope John Paul II to the Uruguayan city of Melo, in 1988. We chose as a corpus of analysis the film “El Baño del Papa”, released in 2007; also, the book “O Dia em que o Papa foi a Melo”, by Aldyr Garcia Schlee, originally released in Uruguay, in 1991. We use the theories of Interarts Studies to achieve success in our investigations, which, despite developing a parallel verification, still detected structural interlacing with other arts.
