Resumo: This study presentes a new Reading of the novel Cinzas do Norte (Ashes of the Amazon), by Milton Hatoum under the light of Lacanian Materialism and discusses about the concept master’s discours, developed by French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, as well as the concepts Objective violence ande Subjective violence, developed by Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek. It is na interpretative and bibliografic study, through which it aims to show that in the novel, it is possible to perceive the acting of the master’s discourse, in power and domination relations, and to perceive how this type of discourse Works as a form of subjective and objective violence.
