Solid waste collectors cooperatives: Environmental working conditions and neighborhood’s impacts

This article sought to identify through bibliographic research which environmental conditions and difficulties of solid waste collectors' cooperatives, to carry out an analysis of the possible impacts that these conditions may bring to the community, which consequently may generate friction in this relationship. Articles, theses, monographs, dissertations with case studies were used as references. The recurring difficulties encountered were the lack of infrastructure and the lack of space for storing solid waste. The cooperative members, in order to negotiate with the industries and guarantee a higher income, need to accumulate a large volume of waste. The solution is the misappropriation of the curb, means of passage, the streets or any place that can accommodate surpluses. There are several disorders caused by the lack of infrastructure: clogging of the sewage network, flooding, proliferation of animals harmful to human health, devaluation of properties, the increase in respiratory diseases, due to the bad smell caused by the activity and the risk of fire. The foregoing, reports the possible reasons for the community's rejection of cooperatives. Without support, cooperatives lose strength to develop a job that is so important for society.
