Resumo: The use of chemicals in agriculture has been increased especially in the second half of lastcentury until the present day and is a constant theme of study and debate in the light of the risksof contamination of water, soil, atmosphere and human imminent when used interchangeably . Inthe book The Silent Spring of RACHEL CARSON, 1962, showed how DDT penetrated the food chainand accumulate in the fatty tissues of animals, including humans, with the risk of causing cancerand genetic damage. The chemicals used in agriculture are classified as toxicology in classes thatrange from I (extremely toxic) to IV (slightly toxic), toxicological evaluation itself, environmental, physical and chemical characteristics and toxicity to non-target organisms. The ecotoxicology ofthese products from an environmental standpoint can be determined through studies thatdetermine the environmental performance of the product on the biodegradability, sorption(sorption) and mobility. Our history records agronomic moments of extremes and even disasters by improper use as well as some advances in reducing the use of pesticides, use of alternativepractices, discovery of less aggressive products, integrated management of adverse factors (pests, diseases and weeds). To reduce risks should have the appropriate employment of such productsand be prevented for any accidents with them and the incessant search for information in thismatch the challenge of food production with sustainable agriculture.
