Education in the era of accountability and ethics: challenges in a more dignified future

Resumo: We have been living at an age of redefinitions. Old ethical and moral truths and certainties do not feed our hopes and do not lull our dreams of a more fair and developed world. Many wars, fratricides, genocides, stress and urban violence besides the environmental and moral destruction in a world where things are at the reach of our hands, tell us we must change the way we see, feel and act very deeply. We have been living at an age when day by day we notice that it is not possible to cope with the exploiting, selfish and disrespectful way which has been threatening lite as all. As a counterpart of that, Education becomes. Little by little, a critical instance on promoting a new way of being, more than a transmitter of ancient data and customs which are quite often linked to violence. That’s, it goes beyond the role of cognitive manager of a linear and simplist knowledge apprenticeship in order to make itself a field for tolerance, discussion, exchanges and relationships. This texts focuses exactly this new educational configuration and its alignment to Ethics and to an alternative possibility of acquaitancing the human being, regarding it as a way for making true the perspective of a new way of living which would be more fair to life as all.Key-words: ethics, education, human sense, Levinas.

Antigas verdades e certezas no campo da ética e da moral, não mais sustentam nossas esperanças e não mais acalentam nosso sonho de um mundo mais justo e desenvolvido. As muitas guerras, fratricídios e genocídios, o stress e a violência urbana, a destruição ambiental e moral em meio a um mundo em que as coisas estão ao alcance das mãos, são exemplos claros de que precisamos mudar profundamente nosso modo ver, sentir e agir. Vivemos em tempos onde a cada dia nos damos conta de que não é possível prosseguir com a forma desrespeitosa, espoliativa e egoísta que vem ameaçando a vida como um todo. Em resposta a tudo isso, a educação tornar-se, aos poucos, instância critica de promoção de um novo modo de ser, mais do que transmissora de dados e costumes antigos que em muitos casos estão atrelados à violência. Nisso ultrapassa o papel de gestora cognitiva de um aprendizado linear e simplista de conhecimentos, para se fazer espaço de abertura, discussão, troca e relação.
