People with disabilities and special education in Brazil in the last 200 years: subjects, concepts and interpretations

Resumo: The article analyzes the different concepts of student and special education in Brazil since 1822, aiming to understand the conceptual evolution of the terms through the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, in the paths of segregation, integration and inclusion, analyzing the impacts of the historical moment and the ideologies dominant in the construction of concepts related to special students and special education. The method used in the study assumes the theoretical-documentary study of works that deal with the theme of the history of special education and disability, in addition to the analysis of legal acts that complement our interpretations. From the study carried out, we evidenced that the concepts of special student and special education evolved according to the predominant points of view in each era: from a medical-mystical-religious interpretation, to a psychologist and, later, pedagogical. In addition, we conclude that historical processes guided special education on the path from segregation to integration and, finally, to inclusion, according to the ideal of nation intended in each era.

El método utilizado en el estudio supone el estudio teórico-documental de obras que tratan el tema de la historia de la educación especial y la discapacidad, además del análisis de actos jurídicos que complementan nuestras interpretaciones. Del estudio realizado evidenciamos que los conceptos de alumno especial y educación especial evolucionaron según los puntos de vista predominantes en cada época: desde una interpretación médico-mística-religiosa, a una psicóloga y, posteriormente, pedagógica. Además, concluimos que los procesos históricos guiaron a la educación especial en el camino de la segregación a la integración y, finalmente, a la inclusión, según el ideal de nación pretendido en cada época.O artigo analisa as diferentes conceituações de aluno e educação especial no Brasil desde 1822, objetivando entender a evolução conceitual dos termos através dos séculos XIX, XX e XXI, nos caminhos da segregação, integração e inclusão, analisando os impactos do momento histórico e das ideologias dominantes na construção de conceitos relativos ao aluno especial e à educação especial. O método utilizado no estudo assume o estudo teórico-documental de obras que tratam da temática da história da educação especial e da deficiência, além da análise de atos legais que complementam nossas interpretações. A partir do estudo realizado, evidenciamos que os conceitos de aluno especial e educação especial evoluíram de acordo com os pontos de vista predominantes em cada época: de uma interpretação médico-mística-religiosa, para uma psicologicista e, após, pedagógica.
