Special Education: challenges in schooling students with associated disorders (ADHD and ODD)

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder can generate cognitive and behavioral impairments, especially when associated with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. In this sense, Special Education can collaborate to minimize academic losses, in cooperation with other areas, due to its coverage with students with Specific Functional Disorders. The objective of this work was to identify academic research that interrelated Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder, locating research areas, describing aspects for school attendance and indicating themes for teacher training. This is a narrative literature review. 24 searches were located in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations of the Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia. The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and the Medicine programs stood out. The main results showed that people diagnosed with both disorders may have difficulties in school learning and social interactions, with inappropriate behaviors that can lead to future unemployment, depression, suicide, among others. The inclusion of the theme in teacher training could contribute to the reduction of dropout, suspension, expulsion and retention rates in school life, as well as contributing to the minimization of the effects of unruly behavior in youth and adult life. It is proposed the formation of multidisciplinary teams, for case studies and study groups. Research involving educational practices with these students is suggested.
