Resumo: In this study, the inclusion of black soldier fly meal (Hermetia illucens) (BFSM) in replacement of fish meal (FM) and its effects on the growth, somatic indices, metabolism and activity of digestive enzymes of lambari (Astyanax altiparanae) was evaluated. The biological test was conducted for eight weeks, using 200 animals (average initial weight=5.5 g) using a closed recirculation system with mechanical, biological and ultraviolet filtration containing 20 tanks (volume of 22 liters). In each experimental unit, 10 fish were used, at a density of 0.45 fish/L. Five treatments (diets) were tested, with four replications, in a completely randomized design. The control diet (BSFM 0%) was prepared with the basic composition of tilapia slaughter residue flour, soybean meal, ground corn and wheat bran. In the other diets, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of FM were replaced by BSFM. During the experiment, the fish were fed at a feeding rate of 10% of live weight, with a feeding frequency of twice a day (8:30 am and 5:00 pm). At the end of the experiment, fish biometry was performed (weight and length measurements) and the liver and gastrointestinal tract of the fish were collected for laboratory analysis. The results showed that the inclusion of BSFM in the diet did not affect (P < 0.05) the performance parameters of the lambaris, demonstrating that the total replacement of PF is possible. Body composition was influenced by the inclusion of BSFM, where dry matter and fat showed significant changes in the 50% inclusion treatment. The activity of digestive enzymes was not altered by the inclusion of BSFM (P>0.05). Amino acid levels in fish liver had a significant effect (P < 0.05) in the 50% BSFM inclusion treatment. It is concluded that BSFM can be used in lambari diets as a total replacement for FM, maintaining fish growth.
