Resumo: | The older population is growing considerably in recent years. It motivates studies on aging to help to understand its mechanisms and effects on mobility and risk of fall in older adults. A fall is considered the sixth more frequent cause of death among older adults. The Timed Up & Go test (TUG) is used to assess the risk of fall. However, TUG considers a condition of gait without any challenge. In this study we investigate whether risk of fall identified by TUG influence performance of gait with obstacles in older adults. Thirty older women were organized in two groups, a group with risk of fall (n=15) and other group without risk of fall (n=15) as determined by TUG. We evaluated the gait kinematics during obstacle crossing considering obstacles of different heights. We observed that although TUG discriminates the older adults regarding risk of fall, foot clearances during obstacle crossing did not differ among the groups. One plausible explanation for these results can be the fact that TUG does not involve obstacle crossing, which is a task with high neuromuscular and cognitive demands to the older adults. It was evident that older adults with or without risk of fall detected by TUG do not differ regarding obstacle crossing. |

Frente a isso, ganha importância a busca pela compreensão dos processos decorrentes do envelhecimento que afetam a mobilidade e risco de quedas em idosos. A sexta causa de morte na população idosa é a queda. Como forma de avaliar o risco de quedas é empregado o Timed Up and Go (TUG), um teste funcional que permite classificar idosos quanto ao risco de quedas. No entanto, o TUG considera uma condição de marcha sem desafios. No presente trabalho, buscamos avaliar se risco de quedas, detectado no TUG, influencia a marcha com obstáculos em idosos. Avaliamos 30 idosas separadas em dois grupos, um com risco de quedas (n=15) e outro sem risco de queda (n=15). Avaliamos a cinemática da marcha ao transpor obstáculos de diferentes alturas, pois obstáculos aumentam a dificuldade de marcha em idosos. Observamos que, embora o TUG diferencie os idosos quanto ao risco de queda, a elevação do pé ao passar pelos obstáculos foi similar. Uma das principais razões para esse resultado pode ser o fato do TUG não envolver a transposição de um obstáculo, tarefa que acarreta uma maior demanda neuromuscular e cognitiva ao idoso. Ficou evidente que idosos classificados com ou sem risco de queda pelo TUG não diferem quanto à elevação do pé na passagem por obstáculo.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Educação Física e DesportosPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Educação FísicaUFSMBrasilEducação FísicaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessElevação do péCinemáticaEnvelhecimentoPessoas idosasNegociação de obstáculosTimed Up & GoFoot clearanceKinematicsAgingObstacle avoidanceCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::EDUCACAO FISICAInfluência do risco de queda sobre a marcha com obstáculos em idososInfluence of risk of fall on gait with obstacles in older adultsinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisCarpes, Felipe Pivettahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/4752530725363240Balk, Rodrigo de Souzahttp://lattes.cnpq.br/8871615237315962Mota, Carlos Bollihttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5319954295407481http://lattes.cnpq.br/6642051569443991Ceccon, Fernando Gomes400900000002600e73fdaad-17f0-41e3-a544-0eb7319b15e4d8c47119-591b-4655-a3d9-4af824cbc731c8b23fd5-cccc-4fdc-b307-5fced883679390d44104-e34f-4075-8f75-315bffd65ae3reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGEF_2017_CECCON_FERNANDO.pdfDIS_PPGEF_2017_CECCON_FERNANDO.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf1289510http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/18239/1/DIS_PPGEF_2017_CECCON_FERNANDO.pdf434d10524e3570c06e39747a81904380MD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
