Resumo: This dissertation entitled "Adoption and single parenthood: The choice of motherhood in single women" consists of three chapters, a theoretical article and two other empirical. The study I conducted a non-systematic literature review articles, books and dissertations, in order to map the social and historical context of women, regarding the choice for motherhood through adoption. The reflection was based on social and historical change of the women’s role and the opening to determine new ways to exercise parenting. In Study II, the objective was to understand the feelings, motivations and expectations of single women without children, who are in line to adopt a child or adolescent. This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative research conducted with three women who are in line to adopt. Interviews were conducted, which were analyzed qualitatively. Among the main results, are the difficulty in getting pregnant or maintain pregnancy as the main reason for seeking the adoption, the desire to have a child with the need to care for someone and be cared for, the existence of a sense of readiness to adoption would avoid a support network to help in the care and education of the child and the lack of timely and frequent information on the progress of the process, passing the idea that the queue is stuck. The need and importance of support groups and follow-up of individuals qualified for adoption is discussed. Study III proposes meet three female parent families formed through adoption, to understand what were the motivations involved to adopt a child and identify who these women can count on Parent care. Using semi-structured interviews carried out a study of qualitative and exploratory, based on the analysis of their verbal content. The motivation to effect the adoption was related to the desire to be a mother, but also the difficulty of gestating and maintain a pregnancy. The family and health professionals were identified as the main sources of support in the exercise of motherhood. It was possible to detect the importance of family support when deciding to adopt. The results of the studies demonstrate the complexity of the subject, the focus this family modality that arises today. The reflections generated from the results found in this study are not exhausted, requiring the completion of other studies that build scientific knowledge on the subject.

O estudo I realizou uma revisão de literatura não sistemática em artigos, livros e dissertações, com objetivo de mapear o contexto social e histórico das mulheres, no que tange à possibilidade de escolha pela maternidade através da adoção. A reflexão foi pautada na mudança social e histórica do papel das mulheres e a abertura para decidir novas formas de exercer a parentalidade. No Estudo II, o objetivo foi conhecer os sentimentos, as motivações e expectativas de mulheres solteiras, sem filhos, que estão na fila para adotar uma criança ou adolescente. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória e descritiva, realizada com três mulheres que estão na fila para adotar. Foram realizadas entrevistas, que foram analisadas qualitativamente. Dentre os principais resultados, encontram-se a dificuldade em engravidar ou manter a gestação como principal motivo para a busca pela adoção, o desejo de ter um filho associado à necessidade de cuidar de alguém e ser cuidada, a existência de um sentimento de prontidão para adoção que dispensaria uma rede de apoio para ajudar no cuidado e na educação do filho e a falta de informações atualizadas e frequentes sobre o andamento do processo, perpassando a ideia de que a fila de espera está paralisada. A necessidade e importância dos grupos de apoio e acompanhamento dos indivíduos aptos para adoção é discutida. O Estudo III propõe conhecer três famílias monoparentais femininas formadas através da adoção, compreender as motivações implicadas para adotar uma criança e identificar com quem essas mulheres podem contar no cuidado monoparental. Utilizando entrevistas semiestruturadas, realizou-se um estudo de caráter qualitativo e exploratório, a partir da análise de seu conteúdo verbal. A motivação para efetivar a adoção estava relacionada à vontade de ser mãe, como também, à dificuldade de gestar e manter uma gestação. A família e profissionais da saúde como identificados como as principais fontes de apoio no exercício da maternidade. Foi possível detectar a importância do apoio da família no momento da decisão em adotar. Os resultados dos estudos realizados demonstram a complexidade do tema, ao focalizar essa modalidade de família que surge na atualidade. As reflexões geradas a partir dos resultados encontrados não se esgotam nesse estudo, tornando necessária a realização de outras pesquisas que construam conhecimento cientifico sobre o tema.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências Sociais e HumanasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em PsicologiaUFSMBrasilPsicologiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAdoçãoFila de esperaFamíliaMonoparentalidadeMulheres solteirasAdoptionQueueFamilySingle parenthoodSingle ladiesCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIAAdoção e monoparentalidade: a escolha pela maternidade em mulheres solteirasAdoption and single parenthood: the choice of motherhood in single womeninfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisSiqueira, Aline Cardosohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/3278922570477238Smeha, Luciane NajarRossato, Caroline RubinSantos, Samara Silva doshttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9208506078305014Leão, Flavia Elso700700000001600600600600f39c0f44-b7d4-4406-b457-709dc2d1891194468b9a-a7cd-4b18-8874-6fc81c30dccc9f9a3b59-f7f3-48e1-9c81-17a3bc360b5448ca2ff8-5722-4b11-9323-4bd97bab697f8b18d26f-05ed-4457-8eea-2bf5301b1a30reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações do UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALDIS_PPGPSICOLOGIA_2015_LEAO_FLAVIA.pdfDIS_PPGPSICOLOGIA_2015_LEAO_FLAVIA.pdfDissertação de Mestradoapplication/pdf1994638http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/22373/1/DIS_PPGPSICOLOGIA_2015_LEAO_FLAVIA.pdf490f25904ccb5d052c361c16e240c485MD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
