SOCIAL CRITICISM AND DISCOURSE: CRITICAL MOMENTS IN THE DEBATE OF BRAZILIAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

Resumo: This paper aims to analyze discoursive identifications in the construction of the critical moment (MAGALHÃES, 2016; PENNYCOOK, 2012) in the statements of the presidential candidates of Brazil, in the first debate of 2018. We based our studies on Ferreira and Rajagopalan (2016) about critical studies in language, on Magalhães (2016) and Pennycook (2012) about ‘critical moment’, and Fairclough (2001; 2003) about Critical Discourse Analysis. The analyzed corpus consists of excerpts from the speeches of the eight presidential candidates during the first debate of 2018. The results showed that the candidates presented critical moments with lexical choices in the discursive construction of images of themselves and representations of the other candidates and of the current government.

Tomamos como base los estudios de Ferreira y Rajagopalan (2016) sobre los estudios críticos en lenguaje, por Magalhães (2016) y Pennycook (2012) sobre 'momento crítico' y por Fairclough (2001; 2003) sobre Análisis Crítico del Discurso. El corpus analizado consta de extractos de los discursos de los ocho candidatos presidenciales durante el primer debate de 2018. Los resultados mostraron que los candidatos presentaron momentos críticos plagados de opciones léxicas en la construcción discursiva de imágenes de sí mismos y representaciones de los otros candidatos y de los demás candidatos del gobierno actual.  Este artigo analisa a construção discursiva de momentos críticos (MAGALHÃES, 2016) presentes nas falas dos candidatos à presidência do Brasil durante o primeiro debate de 2018. Partimos dos trabalhos de Ferreira e Rajagopalan (2016) sobre os estudos críticos, de Magalhães (2016) e Pennycook (2012) sobre “momento crítico” e de Fairclough (2001; 2003) sobre Análise de Discurso Crítica. O corpus analisado é constituído de trechos das falas dos candidatos presidenciáveis durante o primeiro debate de 2018.
