Resumo: This article is dedicated to the poetry of the Polish Wislawa Szymborska to try to answer, in an essayistic and not definitive way, the following question: what is an image-in-poem? For this, the poems “Fotografia do 11 de Setembro”, published for the first time in 2002, and “Gente na Ponte”, published in 1987, were analyzed in this article. This analysis is dedicated  to the themes of Szymborska’s texts, especially the recurrence of the idea of “death in full life". Her poetry was analyzed here with the thoughts of Alfredo Bosi, Didi-Huberman, Etienne Samain, Michel Collot and Walter Benjamin. It was seen, from Bosi, that the image in the poem is not an icon of the object that is fixed on the eyes. Nor is it an unrealized phantom produced in reverie. But it is made of the temporal linearity of linguistic discourse and then subverts it. Thus subversive, we conclude that the characteristic of this image is that it is an articulated and serialized word that, in paradox, dreams of the enchantment of a simultaneous and instantaneous appearance in our eyes, producing a “lived experience” for the reader, leaving a trace and a vestige, insinuating itself without giving itself completely. Its characteristics is the silent, lacunar form.

Its characteristics is the silent, lacunar form.
