Resumo: This work is part of a research took placed at the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal do Tocantins which investigated the meanings of African literature in the reports of beginner teachers. This research has as its starting point the Law 10.639/03 which made compulsory the teaching of history and culture African-Brazilian and African in educational institutions in the country. Generating data we loan the Oral History semi-structured interview technique based on the following questions: 1) "What are the five (5) words that come to mind when you think about Africa?" 2) What are five (5) words that come to mind when thinking about Europe?"
