The paper talks about the act of reading by the literature teacher as important factor of success in view of the teaching for the readers’ formation. It is analyzed the work The librarian of Auschwitz, where a clandestine library, with exiguous and damaged eight physical books and some teachers who act as people books, is used to educate about 500 children. The case was chosen to exemplify that in the teaching of literature, it is necessary for the teacher not only designate literary works, but knowing details, and be clear about categories of analysis that can catalyze productions by students as a way of incorporating the literary object. If a teacher does not read the book it can turn into a frustrating mediation. The well-developed knowledge on the literary work, combined with the ability to approach it with enthusiasm, is valuable to encourage students, and to create an enabling environment for the enjoyment and readers’ formation.
