Resumo: ABSTRACT. This article was elaborated from a case study carried out at the Pedro Virgínio Municipal School, located in the district of Santa Terezinha, rural area of ​​the municipality of Jitaúna/BA (municipality located 383 km from Salvador). Difficulties for the development of the discipline of Physical Education, offered for the classes of the sixth to ninth year of elementary school. For the data collection was used the observation of the classes and the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The study showed that although the field education legislation has advanced in several respects the school in question remained on the fringes of public power and this situation has hampered the development of all disciplines of the school curriculum, not just physical education. Roughly speaking, the lethargy of public power has made it difficult to build a quality school that works on themes and content that respect, value and strengthen the culture and identity of the rural population.

El presente artículo fue elaborado a partir de un estudio de caso realizado en la Escuela Municipal Pedro Virgínio, ubicada en el distrito de Santa Terezinha, zona rural del municipio de Jitaúna/BA (municipio ubicado a 383 km de Salvador), en la cual se buscó analizar las Dificultades para el desarrollo de la disciplina de Educación Física, ofrecida para las clases del sexto al noveno año de la enseñanza fundamental. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó la observación de las clases y la aplicación de un cuestionario semiestructurado. El estudio evidenció que aunque la legislación sobre educación del campo ha avanzado en varios aspectos la escuela en cuestión permaneció al margen de las acciones del poder público y esa situación ha perjudicado el desarrollo de todas las disciplinas del currículo escolar, no sólo de la educación física. En gran manera, el letargo del poder público ha dificultado la construcción de una escuela del campo de calidad, que trabaje temáticas y contenidos que respete, valorice y fortalezca la cultura y la identidad de la población del campo.ABSTRACT. Para a coleta de dados foi utilizada a observação das aulas e a aplicação de um questionário semiestruturado. O estudo evidenciou que embora a legislação sobre educação do campo tenha avançado em vários aspectos a escola em questão permaneceu à margem das ações do poder público e essa situação tem prejudicado o desenvolvimento de todas as disciplinas do currículo escolar, não apenas da educação física. Diante disso, a letargia do poder público tem dificultado a construção de uma escola do campo de qualidade, que trabalhe temáticas e conteúdos que respeite, valorize e fortaleça a cultura e a identidade da população do campo.
