Work, essential for those who migrate, is something endowed with meaning, and a place where experiences of suffering and pleasure emerge, capable of promoting the transformation of work environments, or of collaborating with illness. This research analyzed Venezuelan migrants’ work experiences, discussing the meaning of work and the experiences of pleasure and suffering. This is a qualitative, cross-sectional and exploratory study carried out with ten venezuelans living in southern Brazil, in which a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were applied virtually. It was analyzed that, for many, the meaning of work went far beyond merely material issues, turning to issues of social recognition, growth and personal satisfaction, as well as financial stability for themselves and their families. The experiences of pleasure point to the importance of support and opportunities for growth as a foundation for health, engaging them work and socially, and mobilizing for change. The experiences of suffering, on the other hand, clarify the need for intervention, with linguistic and cultural difficulties, xenophobia, bad relationships with colleagues, fear of unemployment, work overload, precariousness, and experiences of exploitation and violence at work. It points out the need to create Public Policies for caring, socio-professional insertion and confronting prejudice.
