Resumo: | The Management of Federal Universities, because they are complex organizations and public accountability, has become increasingly challenging, which leads to the need for promoting their improvement. This work aims to present a methodology for calculating the appropriate costs to the needs of the Federal University of Tocantins - UFT. The research is a case study of a qualitative nature, as it sought to study the existing theory and apply to a given reality. The model was based on the Activity-Based Cost (ABC) for the generation of information as a tool to support management. ABC costing technique provides for the monitoring of the activities that lead to higher costs, which are allocated to products, enabling thus the analysis of costs. |

La gestión de las Universidades Federales, por ser organizaciones complejas y de responsabilidad pública, se ha vuelto cada vez más desafiadora, lo que lleva a la necesidad de promover su perfeccionamiento. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una propuesta metodológica de medir los costos adecuados a las necesidades de la Universidad Federal de Tocantins – UFT. La investigación es un estudio caso de naturaleza cualitativa, pues se buscó estudiar la teoría existente y aplicar a una dada realidad. El modelo fue fundamentado en el “Activity based cost - ABC”, (costo basado en actividad - ABC), para la generación de informaciones como instrumento de apoyo a la gestión. La técnica de cálculo de costos ABC prevé el monitoreo de las actividades que conllevan a los mayores costos, siendo estos alocados a los productos, posibilitando, de esa forma, el análisis de los costos.A Gestão das Universidades Federais, por serem organizações complexas e de responsabilidade pública, tem se tornado cada vez mais desafiadora, o que leva à necessidade de promover o seu aperfeiçoamento. Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar uma proposta metodológica de apuração de custos adequada às necessidades da Universidade Federal do Tocantins – UFT. A pesquisa é um estudo de caso de natureza qualitativa, pois se buscou estudar a teoria existente e aplicar a uma dada realidade. O modelo foi fundamentado no Activity based Cost (ABC) para a geração de informações como instrumento de apoio à Gestão.
