THE CONSTRUCTION OF ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTION OF BRAZILIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Resumo: Environmental Education, which became Law in Brazil in 1999, seeks to reflect and raise awareness about social and environmental issues to transform students into "environmental citizens". Studies show that the level of environmental awareness of each individual is directly related to the degree of environmental perception and that this, directly reflects on the environmental behavior of the individual. For this reason, the present study aimed to evaluate the construction of the environmental perception of Brazilian university students. The research was carried out in 5 Brazilian universities with a total of 553 respondents, being three public universities and two private universities. For data analysis, the modeling of structural equations using the software SmartPLS 2.0 M3 was used. The result indicates that the environmental perception of the university has a focus on recycling, water and energy saving and reduction of consumption, apart from these issues, the constructs that formed the perception of the environment, were not effective for the formation of environmental awareness.

Los estudios demuestran que el nivel de concientización ambiental de cada individuo está directamente relacionado al grado de percepción ambiental y que éste, refleja directamente en el comportamiento ambiental del individuo. Por este motivo, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la construcción de la percepción ambiental de los estudiantes universitarios brasileños. La encuesta fue realizada junto a las 5 universidades brasileñas con un total de 553 respondedores, siendo tres universidades públicas y dos privadas. Para el análisis de datos, se utilizó el modelado de ecuaciones estructurales a través del software SmartPLS 2.0 M3. El resultado indica que la percepción ambiental del universitario tiene foco en el reciclaje, en la economía de agua y energía y en la reducción del consumo, fuera de estas cuestiones, los constructos formadores de la percepción ambiental, no se mostraron efectivos para la formación de la conciencia ambiental.A Educação Ambiental, que se tornou Lei no Brasil em 1999, busca por meio da reflexão e conscientização sobre as questões socioambientais transformar os estudantes em “cidadãos ambientais”. Estudos demonstram que o nível de conscientização ambiental de cada indivíduo está diretamente relacionado ao grau de percepção ambiental e que este, reflete diretamente no comportamento ambiental do indivíduo. Por este motivo, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a construção da percepção ambiental dos estudantes universitários brasileiros. A pesquisa foi realizada junto à 5 universidades brasileiras com um total de 553 respondentes, sendo três universidades públicas e duas privadas. Para análise de dados, foi utilizada a modelagem de equações estruturais por meio do software SmartPLS 2.0 M3.
