The study aimed at analyzing how the class council happens in the Palmas female prison teaching unit. The Thematic Oral History method was used with semi-structured interviews. The study is presented in response to three specific objectives: to draw a brief history of female prison education in Tocantins; to know the educational work inside the female prison; narrating the interviewees' statements. It is concluded, through the analysis of the documents and the voices of the deponents, that a participatory class council happens, however, it must fulfill certain criteria within the prison system, since there is no participation of the student family. The class council is efficient and brings improvement to the pedagogical practice of those involved, being an efficient pedagogical instrument.
