Anxiety and stress in pacientes submited to chemotherapy

Resumo: | Introduction: The prevalence of cancer has increased in recent decades and chemotherapy is indicated in most cases. Objective: to investigate anxiety and stress symptoms in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Material and method: This are a quantitative, descriptive, comparative and transversal research. 140 individuals participated, divided into a group of cancer patients and another from a sample of the general population. The instruments used were: sociodemographic questionnaire, Anxiety Symptom Intensity Survey (LIS-A) and Stress Symptom Intensity Survey (LIS-E). Results: the group of cancer patients had higher scores of stress and anxiety symptoms in women, in individuals who underwent surgery, who had cancer and the disease returned, with metastasis and those who underwent psychiatric treatment or were using psychotropic drugs. When comparing anxiety and stress symptoms, there was no significant difference between the group of cancer patients and the general population. Conclusion: It is suggested that the medical team assess the presence of psychological symptoms in patients undergoing chemotherapy, and psychotherapy is one of the possibilities to help in coping with the disease. |

Participaram 140 indivíduos, divididos em um grupo de pacientes oncológicos e outro de uma amostra da população geral. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: questionário sociodemográfico, Levantamento da Intensidade de Sintomas de Ansiedade (LIS-A) e Levantamento da Intensidade de Sintomas de Estresse (LIS-E). O grupo de pacientes oncológicos apresentou média no LIS-A de 32,4 (DP = 20,6) e no LIS-E de 24,1 (DP = 16,0) e no grupo da amostra da população geral, média de 34,8 (DP = 21,3) no LIS-A e 24,1 (DP = 16,0) no LIS-E, não havendo haver diferença estatisticamente significativa. A psicoterapia é uma das possibilidades para auxiliar pacientes oncológicos no enfrentamento da doença.Introdução: A prevalência de câncer aumentou nas últimas décadas e o tratamento quimioterápico é indicado na maioria dos casos. Objetivo: investigar os sintomas de ansiedade e estresse em pacientes oncológicos submetidos à quimioterapia. Material e método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa, descritiva, comparativa e transversal. Participaram 140 indivíduos, divididos em um grupo de pacientes oncológicos e outro de uma amostra da população geral. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: questionário sociodemográfico, Levantamento da Intensidade de Sintomas de Ansiedade (LIS-A) e Levantamento da Intensidade de Sintomas de Estresse (LIS-E). Resultados: o grupo de pacientes oncológicos apresentou maior pontuação de sintomas de estresse e ansiedade nas mulheres, em indivíduos que realizaram cirurgia, que tiveram câncer e a doença retornou, com metástase e aqueles que realizavam tratamento psiquiátrico ou faziam uso de psicofármacos. Na comparação de sintomas de ansiedade e de estresse, não houve diferença significativa entre o grupo dos pacientes oncológicos e o da população geral.
