Online therapeutic group for the care of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic

Resumo: The objective was to describe the experience of implementing an online therapeutic group for the mental health care of the elderly during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a descriptive experience report of an extension project that consisted of 10 online group sessions with 14 elderly people from a state in the northeast region of Brazil, coordinated by a psychologist, a psychology student and a nurse. The experience of implementing the group provided learning opportunities for the elderly, such as respect for shared stories, the importance of taking care of both physical and mental health, and facilitated the building of bonds even virtually because they met new people. The adherence of the elderly to group meetings, the sharing of experiences and confidence in the work performed, demonstrated that the elderly are doing their best to maintain social contact, overcoming challenges and surprising themselves with their own potential.

Trata-se de um relato de experiência de natureza descritiva de um projeto de extensão que consistiu em 10 sessões grupais on-line com 14 idosos de um estado da região nordeste do Brasil coordenados por uma psicóloga, uma acadêmica de psicologia e uma enfermeira. A experiência de implementação do grupo oportunizou aprendizados aos idosos como o respeito diante das histórias compartilhadas, a importância de cuidar da saúde tanto física e mental e facilitou a construção de vínculos mesmo de forma virtual por terem conhecido novas pessoas.
