Resumo: We understand that the poetry, like what happens to the language, is in the human nature, following the man since the moment in which he (re)creates a kind of a “language” inside the linguistic system, which is essential part of language. That (re)creation can emerge in the different plans: phonological, morphological, syntactic and semantic. According to this point of view and based on Émile Benveniste’s theorizations, we understand that it is peremptory to experience, in our practices of class, certain semantic approach of poetry, with an opening to (re)readings of different “lexical choices” present in poems. So, in this text, we aim at discoursing about poetry in semantic plan, thinking about some “lexical choices”, instead of possible others, present in some important Brazilian poems, and possibilities of (re)readings of these “choices” in classroom moments. Therefore, we are based on Benveniste’s theory, especially with respect to the notions of language and of linguistic system, relating these notions to a possible definition, built by us, of poetry.
