Resumo: This is aimed to present the preliminary results of a research on the study of phonological processes and orthographic writing in Elementary School compositions. The corpus of the research was composed by texts from 6th grade students from an institution of the public-school system, participant of the Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência (Institutional Program for Initiation to Teaching Grant) - PIBID / CAPES, State University of Western Paraná - Campus Cascavel. Unconventional spellings or "errors" as the traditional perspective for Portuguese language teaching have always been of concern to teachers working in this subject. Researches investigating the nature of spelling errors have shown that students, students of middle school and even in final grades of High School, present doubts when writing, which reveal a lack of knowledge or partial knowledge of the relations between the phonological and spelling system of the language, and its representations. For this reason, among others, it is sought to analyze the motivations about the most recurrent phonological processes identified in the written productions of the autobiography genre, produced in the academic year of 2017, in order to contribute to the knowledge of professionals which are already working in the area and those who are in process training, and other researchers.
