Resumo: This study focuses on the teletandem project (TELLES, 2006, 2011), a virtual context in which speakers of different languages work collaboratively in order to learn the language in which their partners are proficient. The aim of this research is to analyze the stereotypes in the speech of these participants in intercultural contact (KRAMSCH; URYU, 2014), arguing that, in such context, the students may reproduce or create stereotypes (LAKOFF, 1987; FANT, 2012), which may conceal the idea of hegemony by the wealthiest groups over the others. We have conducted our analysis through observation and subsequent transcription of fourteen videos arising from two teletandem partnerships, as well as theoretical discussion of such transcriptions. We believe that this study has implications for a reflective attitude of the participants regarding their speech and the stereotypes they propagate. In addition, this research may have an effect in the development of the mediator, who assists the students on issues regarding the partnerships.
