Conception of grammar and grammar teaching in Neves’ works

Resumo: This work, the result of a research for a master's thesis and this work is part of a subproject developed by   a research and linguistic studies group in Pará, aimed to analyze the most recent grammar of the linguist Maria Helena de Moura Neves, “The Grammar of Portuguese Revealed in Texts” (GPRT), published in 2018, to verify which conception of grammar and grammar teaching emerges from that work. Based on a bibliographical research, consisting of five books by Neves, the analysis and development of possible answers to four guiding questions that constitute the specific objectives of this work were carried out, namely, what is grammar?; what is teaching grammar?; why teach grammar?; and how to teach grammar?. These guiding questions are questions from the subproject, developed, since 2017, “Analysis of grammars written by Brazilian linguists”, part of a broader project, “Language, grammar and variation”. Thus, for GPRT, grammar is an adaptable and sensitive system to the pressures of use, therefore adjustable; and teaching grammar is looking at language and its interrelationships in a reflective way. Grammar teaching must show how grammar organizes relations, produces pragmatic meanings and effects within a context. The teaching of grammar must not be dissociated from language experiences: to reflect on language, the context in which that text was produced must be considered.

The teaching of grammar must not be dissociated from language experiences: to reflect on language, the context in which that text was produced must be considered.Este trabalho, fruto de uma pesquisa para dissertação de mestrado e abrigado nos estudos de um grupo de pesquisa e estudos linguísticos no Pará, objetivou analisar a mais recente gramática da linguista Maria Helena de Moura Neves, “A Gramática do Português Revelada em Textos” (GPRT), publicada em 2018, a fim de verificar qual a concepção de gramática e de ensino de gramática que emerge da referida obra. A partir de pesquisa bibliográfica, constituída por cinco livros de Neves, foi feita a análise e o desenvolvimento de possíveis respostas a quatro perguntas norteadoras que constituem os objetivos específicos deste trabalho, a saber, que é gramática?; que é ensinar gramática?; para que ensinar gramática?; e como ensinar gramática?. Estas perguntas norteadoras constituem perguntas do subprojeto, desenvolvido, desde 2017, “Análise de gramáticas escritas por linguistas brasileiros”, abrigado dentro de um projeto mais amplo, “Língua, gramática e variação”. Assim, para a GPRT, gramática é um sistema adaptável e sensível às pressões do uso, por isso ajustáveis; e ensinar gramática é olhar a língua e as suas inter-relações de forma reflexiva. O ensino de gramática deve mostrar como a gramática organiza as relações, produz as significações e os efeitos pragmáticos dentro de um contexto.
