Resumo: The purpose of this study is rethinking the differences between compounding and derivation, in order to provide evidence of the Brazilian Portuguese in favor of the Kastovsky (2009)’s claim. For him, these word formation processes are the prototypical extremes of a morphological continuum, with, consequently, borderline cases with morphological properties of these operations. The morphological change is also treated in the paper, because Bauer (2005) considers it the main evidence of the relaxation of the boundaries between compounding and derivation
