Resumo: | The text intends to present how the process of constructing the Community Library of the NGO Gerando Vida in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, and Eunápolis, State of Bahia, in the years between 2008 and 2016 was set up. Its objectives are to describe the ways of creating a participatory, democratic and critical reading space for the local reality, which is composed of reading the world and reading the word as an important instrument of personal growth, and also as a path to social transformation. The methodology of the research is based on the founded theory, which consists in uniting theories to experiences and data with the purpose of widening the comprehension of concepts and provide a significant guide to action, with the use of the bibliographic method, performed via the available registers in printed and digital sources about the given theme, national legislations, and also institutional reports by the NGO Gerando Vida in the years between 2008 and 2016. The conclusions of the study are to highlight the changes that have occurred by the insertion of a reading space in a context of social inequality, marginalization and non-appreciation of word reading. |

Tem por objetivo descrever os caminhos para a criação de um espaço de leitura participativo, democrático e crítico da realidade local, que se compõe pela leitura de mundo e a leitura da palavra como importante instrumento de crescimento pessoal, e também como um caminho para a transformação social. A metodologia da pesquisa baseia-se na teoria fundamentada, que consiste em unir teorias às experiências e dados com o fim de ampliar a compreensão sobre conceitos e proporcionar um guia significativo para a ação, com a utilização do método bibliográfico, realizada a partir dos registros disponíveis em fontes impressas e digitais sobre a temática, legislações nacionais, além dos relatórios institucionais da ONG Gerando Vida dos anos de 2008 a 2016.
