Resumo: This study aims to analyze how the training process offered by the Nursing course of the “Profª Maria Elisa Albuquerque Maia” advanced campus, State University of Rio Grande do Norte, contributed to the role of nurses in the field of Popular Education in Health (PEH), from the conceptions of the graduates. It is a descriptive-exploratory research, in wich, for the collection of data, it was made use of documental analysis, application of “semi-structured online questionnaire” sent via e-mail and realization of focus groups, in a way that 35 professionals were investigated. The results show that the formation of the nursing course proposes discussions and practices of health education in an emphatic way. However, it was noticeable that some graduates still have a conception of health education guided by the traditional conception and still mistakenly associating it as a synonym for Permanent Education. It was observed, therefore, that even inserted in a course in which the Pedagogical Political Project values and experiences health education guided by the sharing of knowledge and that allows PEH experiences in their curricular internships, some graduates were unable to build this theoretical conception through PEH perspective, being guided by the traditional concept of health education.
