Waiting room: Health education strategy carried out in a basic unit in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, State of Paraná, Brazil

Resumo: This text aims to report the experience on educational health practices that were developed in the waiting room for the registered population of a Family Health Unit in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, State of Paraná, Brazil. This is a descriptive, qualitative study, carried out from March 2019 to February 2020. The project started as a consequence of the yellow fever epidemic in the region of Campos Gerais. In all, 66 educational actions were carried out. The chosen themes addressed issues of local relevance and were related to health promotion and disease prevention. Through the interventions developed in the waiting room, it was possible to work on all the proposed themes. As a result, the involvement and participation of users and health unit staff in the process was perceived. It was concluded then, that it is important to insert projects that value communication and the better reception of users in health services, such as the introduction of lectures, dynamics and parodies in the waiting room, as they qualify the care provided, in addition to promoting a more humanized care and the valorization of popular knowledge.

Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, qualitativo, realizado no período de março de 2019 a fevereiro de 2020.  O projeto teve início como consequência da epidemia da febre amarela na região dos Campos Gerais. Ao todo, foram realizadas 66 ações educativas. Os temas escolhidos abordaram assuntos de relevância local e foram relacionados à promoção da saúde e prevenção de doenças. Por meio das intervenções desenvolvidas em sala de espera, foi possível trabalhar todos os temas propostos. Como resultado, percebeu-se o envolvimento e a participação dos usuários e da equipe da unidade de saúde no processo.
