Access and permanence in high school: challenges of peasant youth

Resumo: | This paper presents the results of a research carried out with the objective of analyzing the difficulties of access and permanence of youngsters of the field in the high school of the city of Milton Brandão, State of Piauí, from the students perspective. It started from the following problem: what are the challenges pointed out by young people living in the municipality’s countryside for their access and permanence in school during high school? The research, based on Countryside Education assumptions, is described as descriptive, qualitative, and had as data production procedures, structured interview, questionnaire and Culture Circle. The results of the study evidenced the fragility of the Laws, which, for the most part, are not complied with by public managers, which harms many young people in the countryside, as their conditions of access and permanence in high school are precarious, which culminates in several problems such as evasion, rural exodus and lack of prospects for the future. It is concluded that it is important to insist on the critical and political formation of this youth, in order to become aware of the reality that oppresses them, and can organize themselves in order to look for ways to face these situations. |

It is concluded that it is important to insist on the critical and political formation of this youth, in order to become aware of the reality that oppresses them, and can organize themselves in order to look for ways to face these situations.Este trabalho apresenta resultados de pesquisa realizada com o objetivo de analisar as dificuldades de acesso e permanência de jovens do campo no ensino médio do município de Milton Brandão, Piauí, a partir da perspectiva dos estudantes. Partiu-se do seguinte problema: quais os desafios apontados por jovens residentes no campo do município para seu acesso e permanência na escola durante o Ensino Médio? Selecionou-se, como campo empírico da investigação, uma escola do município e, como sujeitos, três ex-funcionários da escola, 26 estudantes do 9º ano e 25 jovens que cursam o ensino médio, residentes em comunidades vizinhas à escola. A pesquisa, fundamentada em pressupostos da Educação do Campo, configura-se como descritiva, de natureza qualitativa, e teve como procedimentos de produção de dados entrevista estruturada, questionário e Círculo de Cultura. Os resultados do estudo evidenciaram a fragilidade na instituição de políticas públicas e no cumprimento das leis educacionais pelos gestores públicos, provocando problemas como evasão, êxodo rural e falta de perspectivas dos jovens em relação ao futuro.
