Resumo: By analyzing the representations of cangaço in the literature of leaflets, this article takes on the challenge of establishing a dialogue between tradition and postmodernity, with the aim of breaking with a certain primitive or almost medieval reading of this literary production. As an arena of consent and resistance, the leaflets were forged in line with a certain essentialist idea of popular culture, shaped in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century, forming an base imaginary, reinvented in the second half of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st. Contrary to that primitive reading, we approached the capacity for renewal and permanent absorption of narratives, languages, imaginary, especially in relation to mass culture and digital technologies, revealing the processes of resistance, but also of conformism, of popular cultures in Brazil.
