Municipalities are the ideal places for studies on social vulnerabilities, as they are territorial units where social weaknesses emerge, and conflicts are latent. Therefore, the objective of this article was to empirically operationalize the concept of social vulnerability through a vulnerability indicator with integration of socioeconomic data from 2010 IBGE Census to map and analyze susceptibility situations on a municipal scale in Barcarena-PA. For this, the vulnerability was classified using a factor analysis study in the SPSS 24 software. Subsequently, the data was visualized in the QGIS 3 software to identify the vulnerable spatial cut-outs. The results showed that most census tracts are vulnerable from moderate to high. Then, the 10 most vulnerable census sectors were ranked, showing that the critical zones are in the islands, rural and spontaneously occupied neighbourhoods in Vila dos Cabanos and old Barcarena. The existence of social differences between the planned district (Vila dos Cabanos) and the unplanned one (Barcarena headquarters) stands out. The municipality has many disparities, which need urgent confrontation and effective policy intervention.
