EDUCATIONAL PRATICE IN GEOGRAPHY: BUILDING AN ALTERNATIVE CURVIMETER

Resumo: The use of the curvimeter came from the necessity of evaluating the distance of a road course on a map during classroom exercises. Since such a device is quite expensive, a reel used to mark fabrics was bought in a retail store. A full rotation of the reel was also measured in order to calculate its circumference. The reel, transformed into a curvimeter, could then be used to measure curvilinear paths like any regular ruler. At that point, the students started a series of experiments and comparisons using an actual standard curvimeter to evaluate the degree of accuracy of the reel-madecurvimeter.

Como o aparelho é relativamente caro para a compra, para tanto, comprou-se uma carretilha para marcar tecido, em loja de aviamentos. Mediu-se uma volta completa da carretilha para se calcular a sua circunferência. A carretilha transformada em curvímetro passou a ser capaz de medir percursos curvilíneos como uma régua comum.
