Resumo: This article analyzes the changes in the relations of inhabitants with urban rivers in the city of Altamira-PA after the construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant between 2011 and 2019. As a theoretical mediation, we use the notion of “fluviality”, related to the expression of everyday life that occurs in and by the river, made possible by the collective appropriation of river spatialities. About the methodology adopted, the concept of space production is presented as a basis, especially with regard to the increasingly strong presence of modern content forms. The analysis takes place through the variables related to access to the river from three dimensions: work, housing and leisure, having as sources the secondary data of the company Norte Energia S.A, structured interviews and fieldwork. The results show that before Belo Monte, the river spaces were spontaneously accessed and directed to their common use, however, after the construction of the hydroelectric plant, the uses started to be institutionalized by the State and turned to the market, a reality that we call “repressed fluviality”.
