VERTICAL ACCURACY EVALUATION OF DIGITAL ELEVATION MODELS (DEMS) FOR THE STATE OF RIO DE JANEIRO THROUGH AUTOMATION ALGORITHMS

Resumo: | The aim of the this study is to evaluate the vertical accuracy of the DEMs from the SRTM, ASTER GDEM, Topodata and SRTM EMBRAPA for Rio de Janeiro state based on the PEC and PEC-PCD and to develop two algorithms that allow the automation of the procedures for such evaluation. The choice of the state of Rio de Janeiro for an area to be analyzed is its topographic heterogeneity and that allows a regional evaluation of the DEMs. The vertical accuracy of the DEMs from remote sensing varies spatially, so it is necessary to evaluate the vertical accuracy of the DEMs for each new area to be studied. Therefore the algorithms developed in this study were efficient in the automation of the procedures for such evaluation, consisting in important tools to reduce the evaluation time evaluate and to choose the best DEM for each area. The evaluation of the DEMs showed that the SRTM obtained the best vertical accuracy results for the state of Rio de Janeiro, but the ASTER GDEM was the one that obtained more regular vertical accuracy results regarding the terrain configuration. |

A escolha do estado do Rio de Janeiro como área a ser analisada é justificada por sua heterogeneidade topográfica e por permitir uma avaliação regional dos MDEs. Uma vez que a acurácia vertical dos MDEs oriundos de sensoriamento remoto varia espacialmente, há a necessidade de se avaliar a acurácia vertical dos MDEs para cada nova área a ser estudada, portanto os algoritmos desenvolvidos nesse estudo foram eficientes na automatização dos procedimentos para tal avaliação, consistindo assim, em ferramentas importantes para a redução do tempo de avaliação e escolha do melhor MDE a ser utilizado.
