The planet is currently experiencing a serious Covid-19 pandemic, which has been dramatically impacting health services and has claimed millions of lives worldwide. In underdeveloped countries like Brazil, a myriad of social inequities occurs, leading to the existence of different vulnerable population groups, such as the indigenous, quilombolas, and the most impoverished people, especially those living in the favelas. The impact of the pandemic on these vulnerable groups is much more intense when compared to the rest of the population because they have serious difficulties in preventing themselves from the disease and even from economic subsistence. The role of the State in protecting these groups is fundamental for the maintenance of dignity and, even, of life. In this context, Bioethics of Protection is shown to be an ideal guide for a more just and restorative implementation of public policies for these most vulnerable groups.
