HARASSMENT AND ABUSE IN HIGHER EDUCATION: SYMPTOMATOLOGY AND COGNITIVE EFFECT IN VICTIMS AFTER AGGRESSION

Resumo: | This article aims to discuss the cognitive effects and symptoms (physical and emotional) presented by victims of harassment and abuse within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In order to do so, we analyze how these cases are evidenced and originated within the HEIs in the city of Ponta Grossa, Paraná. Testimonies from academics of both genders were collected. Data were collected through an online questionnaire composed of descriptive and objective questions, which were investigated through content analysis. We evidenced that cases of harassment and abuse directly impact the academic experience of victims, resulting in several symptoms related to each other, the most common being insecurity and anxiety. Such symptoms are also reflected in physical pain and can even lead to suicidal ideation. In this sense, we affirm the need to promote discussions on the subject, as well as the elaboration of public policies aimed at the mental health of students. |

Para tanto, analisamos como se evidenciam e se originam esses casos dentro das IES da cidade de Ponta Grossa, Paraná. Foram recolhidos depoimentos de acadêmicos de ambos os gêneros. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário on-line composto por questões descritivas e objetivas, que foram investigadas através de análise de conteúdo. Evidenciamos que os casos de assédio e abuso impactam diretamente a vivência acadêmica das vítimas, resultando em diversos sintomas relacionados entre si, sendo os mais comuns insegurança e ansiedade. Tais sintomas são refletidos também em dores físicas podendo levar até mesmo em casos de ideações suicidas.
