SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONAL DISABILITY AND SOCIAL VULNERABILITY IN BRAZILIAN OLDER ADULTS: AN ECOLOGICAL STUDY

Objectives: The objectives of the study were to evaluate the spatial distribution of indicators of functional disability and social vulnerability in Brazilian older adults in the years 2003, 2008 and 2013 and to verify the spatial dependence between the indicators of functional disability in 2013. Method: Ecological study, with spatial analysis of the functional disability of the older adults and social vulnerability in Brazil in the periods of 2003, 2008 and 2013. Indicators were collected from System of Indicators for Monitoring the Public Policies and Health Situation of the Elderly and Institute of Applied Economic Research. Data analysis was performed using JASP, TerraView and QGIS software, with the presentation of dependency by LISA. Results: The protagonism of the North and Northeast regions was evidenced, with the highest proportions of functional capacity and social vulnerability. The spatial dependence showed areas of High-High clusters concentrated in the North, Northeast and Center-West. Conclusion: There are regional disparities in the spatial distribution of indicators, with a prevalence of functional disabilty in the Northeast and Center-West, and maintenance of historically established and macro-determined inequities.
