SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF CONFIRMED CASES OF CHIKUNGUNYA FEVER IN PERNAMBUCO BEFORE AND DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Resumo: Objective: To analyze the spatial and temporal dynamics of confirmed cases of Chikungunya fever in the state of Pernambuco before and during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Methods: Ecological study, with confirmed cases of Chikungunya fever in the online Notification Agraves Information System from 2018 to 2021. Gross incidence rates smoothed by the local empirical Bayesian estimator were calculated according to municipality of residence and the spatial dynamics were arranged by calculating the Risk Ratio. The temporal analysis was developed through the Joinpoint Regression method, according to confirmation of cases per quarter. Results: 26.194 cases were confirmed in Pernambuco. The spatial analysis highlighted the agreste macroregion with a concentration of municipalities that showed low incidence rates in both periods of the study, on the other hand, the Metropolitan region aggregated the municipalities with the highest incidence rates in the pandemic period and the highest values in the Risk Ratio. The temporal analysis identified three trends: two of growth and one of reduction. Conclusion: During the pandemic period, there was an epidemic of Chikungunya Fever in the state of Pernambuco, which went unnoticed because the efforts of the Health System were focused on fighting the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

Métodos: Estudo ecológico, com casos confirmados de febre de Chikungunya no período de 2018 a 2021. Foram calculadas as taxas brutas de incidência suavizadas pelo estimador Bayesiano empírico local, segundo município de residência e a dinâmica espacial apresentada por meio da Razão de Risco. A análise temporal foi desenvolvida pelo Joinpoint Regression, segundo trimestre de confirmação dos casos. Resultados: Foram confirmados 26.194 casos de Chikungunya em Pernambuco. A análise espacial destacou a Macrorregião de Saúde Agreste com concentração de municípios que apresentaram baixa incidência em ambos os períodos do estudo; A Macrorregião de Saúde Metropolitana agregou os municípios com as maiores incidências no período pandêmico e maiores Razões de Risco. A análise temporal identificou três tendências: duas de crescimento e uma de redução.
