Resumo: | In this work, an innovative technique was proposed using the concept of internal cooling of the cutting tool. For this purpose, a study was carried out on the behavior of carbide tools, internally cooled, in the turning of Gray Cast Iron by Continuous Casting (FoFo). The process input variables were: cutting speed () (100 and 150 m / min), cutting depth () (1.0 and 2.0 mm) and environments, Abundant Cutting Fluid (ACF) and Internally Cooled Tool (ICT). The response variables were: cutting forces, surperficial integrity (roughness, microhardness and metallography) as well as types and mechanisms of wear. The main results indicated that the cutting forces were greater with the use of ICT, in comparison with the ACF, being a possible indication of the effect of the greater cooling capacity of ICTs. In relation to roughness, for a higher cutting speed (150 m/min), therefore greater heat and temperature generation, the ICT environment showed better results. The analysis of subsurface microhardness indicated that both processes, ICT and ACF, as expected, caused hardening of the material. The ICT method showed higher results of microhardness, possibly due to the low lurifying capacity of the system. The most evident type of wear on cutting tools was flank wear, while the predominant mechanisms were adhesion (atrittion), common at low cutting speeds as well as abrasive wear. |
