Efeitos da implementação do video assistant referee (VAR) no campeonato brasileiro de futebol

Resumo: The aim of this study was to verify the impact of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) implementation in the Brazilian Men's Football Championship. In this sense, goals, penalties, red cards and added time were compared in games from the 2018 (without the use of VAR) and 2019 (with the use of VAR) seasons. In total, 760 matches were analyzed using official summaries available on the website of the Brazilian Football Confederation. Statistical analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk and Mann-Whitney tests (p ˂ 0.05) (SPSS version 26). The comparison between 2018 and 2019 seasons demonstrated no statistically significant differences in the number of goals (p = 0.323) and red cards (p = 0.959). On the other hand, in 2019 the number of penalties (p = 0.046) and extra time (p ˂ 0.01) was significantly higher compared to the 2018 championship. Taken together, these findings indicate taht the implementation of VAR was accompanied by decisive changes to important elements of the Brazilian Men's Football Championship matches.

Nesse sentido, foram comparados gols, pênaltis, cartões vermelhos e tempo de acréscimo dos jogos das edições 2018 (sem a utilização do VAR) e 2019 (com a utilização do VAR. No total, 760 partidas foram analisadas por meio de súmulas oficiais disponíveis no site da Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. A análise estatística contou com os testes Shapiro-Wilk e Mann-Whitney (p ˂ 0,05) (SPSS versão 26). A comparação entre 2018 e 2019 demonstrou não haver diferenças estatisticamente significantes para número de gols (p = 0,323) e cartões vermelhos (p = 0,959). Por outro lado, em 2019 a quantidade de pênaltis (p = 0,046) e tempo extra (p ˂ 0,01) foi significativamente maior em relação à temporada 2018.
